Gamay is a lot like Pinot Noir. It is often described as Pinot Noir’s younger sibling. Gamay is a natural cross of Pinot Noir and Gouais Blanc grapes.
Crafted in the Beaujolais style, is bright, fresh, and irresistibly drinkable. Picked early to preserve its natural acidity and highlight Gamay’s unique character, this wine maintains a lower alcohol while delivering expressive flavors of pomegranate, white pepper, and floral undertones.

Here is a “taste-alike” correspondence between this wine and the Platonic Goût de Provence of the same varietal. A unique quality imparted by the local underbrush, of lavender, rosemary and sage, notably — but perhaps also by a proximal pine forest. In any event, the wine is marked by its lively acidity, vivid pepperiness, with strong suggestion of black olive, violets, licorice and white flowers.
This wine will greatly benefit from decanting and a healthy exposure to air.

Dense, from its core to its edges. Intense, from its aromas to its flavors. Mysterious, from its layers to its deep brooding nature. This wine simply does not care what you think because it already knows you want more.

100% Petite Sirah
Lovely floral aromatic intensity showcasing notes of fresh violet, candied floral blossom and black raspberry. On the palate, these notes are echoed, with layers of creamy blueberry, ripe Bing cherry, raspberry gelato, and black cherry liquor. There is a richness and opulence to this wine, with intriguing power and intensity while the tannins come across fresh and chewy adding structure, finesse, and complexity. Secondary notes of roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate, and cocoa-nibs harken to the well-integrated subtle oak character that leads to a lengthy mouthwatering finish. This is a perfect example of classic Petite Sirah from Napa Valley, certain to age and provide enjoyment for many years to come.
Carefully selected fruit from both northern vineyards in Calistoga, and St. Helena, and southern vineyards in Oakville, Oak Knoll, and Coombsville, as well as our own Stags Leap District, are added to intensify and broaden the wine’s profile to include floral, spice and fruit characteristics. Petite Sirah is a varietal that is enhanced by the deliberate diversity of our vineyard sites.

If you’ve never heard of it, it’s not surprising, Mencía typically is grown in Spain and Portugal on the Iberian peninsula. What makes Mencía special is it has shown the ability to age like other fine wines and it offers rich aromas in the glass. If you love Pinot Noir and other aromatic reds (like Gamay), then Mencía is something worth investigating.
