Aromas of black cherry, plum, blueberry, vanilla and a slight floral quality. There are juicy flavors of plum, black cherry, cranberry, vanilla, blueberry and cassis. This is a silky wine with balanced acidity along with long textured finish.

Grapes for this Malbec are grown in the Andes Mountains of Argentina, then chilled and transported by ocean voyage to Caymus, where we use our winemaking techniques to create a style that is dense, dark and supple. Falling outside standard labeling rules, Red Schooner does not include a vintage date but is known by the voyage from which it traveled (i.e. Voyage 12 is the 2022 vintage).

The 2022 Old Vine Zinfandel opens with enchanting aromas of black cherry, spiced plum and boysenberry pie, complemented by hints of white pepper, coriander, and toffee. On the palate, layers of blackberry and dried cranberry mingle with dark chocolate, espresso and marzipan, framed by subtle notes of cedar and damp earth. This wine is beautifully complex, with a concentrated core of dark fruit and well-structured tannins, offering depth and elegance in every sip.

Sultry aromas of berry, thyme, anise and wet rock on the nose. The palate is awash in roasted fennel, toasted herb and baked black-plum flavors.

If you’ve never heard of it, it’s not surprising, Mencía typically is grown in Spain and Portugal on the Iberian peninsula. What makes Mencía special is it has shown the ability to age like other fine wines and it offers rich aromas in the glass. If you love Pinot Noir and other aromatic reds (like Gamay), then Mencía is something worth investigating.
